(Also I realize its 2020 now and I'm on an ancient OS but it's a backup computer at this point that I ended up needing. So thanks again for helping me keep it going for a while longer!)KristenMohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02827046754585969607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3553482533798017687.post-48135880460338443332019-01-16T04:43:59.356-08:002019-01-16T04:43:59.356-08:00Thanks a lot. And now my computer runs as normal again, I had no idea a wireless card could do something like that because usually when it's unplugged I have no problem, just can't connect to wireless. In my case, the free version of Avast Antivirus was causing the "stuck on the welcome screen problem" and when I uninstalled it in Safe Mode, the issue was solved. I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and haven't had any problems ever since.Pavel Vladovhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01722328488450089609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3553482533798017687.post-48658377371753979162013-04-13T22:51:32.197-07:002013-04-13T22:51:32.197-07:00Avast is indeed one of the best free antivirus sol...Avast is indeed one of the best free antivirus solutions available, but then one day it caused the "stuck on the welcome screen problem" to me, too. I then temporarily switched to MSE with the intent to install Avast again when they fix the problem. I'm pretty sure that they already did, but I simply liked how lightweight and unobtrusive (no ads at all) MSE is, so I decided to stay with it. This is probably why I could not re-check those two instances of AVG listed under the startup services.
